Connection Project
exploration in SolidWorks modeling and flexible properties of plastic
Using SolidWorks, I modeled a modular connection that challenges the program's organic modeling capabilities. It can be assembled in two different configurations. It is meant to use the flexible properties of plastic from a 3D print. Multiple prototypes were required to find the right support material and machine for the job. Renderings are done in Cinema4D.
3D print iterations
Tests are done with a makerbot and PLA filament. Problems ocurred with removing support structures after the fact. This obstacle moved me to the Objet 3D printer, which uses photosensitive resin and a wax support structure that can be picked away after the print is done.
